Moldovan fuel prices increase following petrol rise at international markets

17:20 | 09.01.2018 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 9 January /MOLDPRES/ – The National Regulatory Agency for Energy (ANRE) announced on 09 January 2018, for 10 – 23 January, ceiling trade price for most demanded fuel Premium – 95 at MDL 18.22 per litre and diesel oil of MDL 16.32.

However, fuel increased by MDL 0,68 per litre and price at diesel pump by MDL 0,60. New petrol and diesel prices will take effect at midnight and be in effect on 10 – 23 January 2018. The operators have no right to retail fuel at prices higher than those set by ANRE.

The ANRE states that ceiling prices for retail sale of major petroleum products commencing 10 January 2018 include new excise duties for 2018 under the Fiscal Code. Starting 01 January 2018, excises for one ton of petrol have increased from MDL 4560 to MDL 4961 (by 8.79 per cent more than in 2017) and for one ton of diesel from MDL 1926 to MDL 2092 (by 8.62 per cent more than in 2017).

The price of oil has reached on 09 January 2018 its highest level within recent two and a half years due to concern of investors about impact of Iran’s turmoil on supply, measures taken by OPEC and outside producers to reduce production and extreme temperatures of the cold in the USA, leading to increased demand, as well as possibility of tightening sanctions against Iran.

In addition, stocks in the United States have fallen below expectations, continuing the trend of the world's largest oil consumer, according to Reuters. The stocks of distilled and gasoline products have increased strongly, as such, as a result of intense refinery operations.

The Brent oil price index has reached a peak of $68.07 per barrel on the international market today. The US market crude oil price has advanced to $62.07 per barrel, highest level since May 2015.
