Moldovan parliament building to be illuminated in colors of Lithuanian flag

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/- As a sign of solidarity with Lithuania, which marks 100 years since independence, the parliament building will be illuminated in the colors of this country’s flag. The public will be able to admire the parliament building in yellow, green and red today from 18:00 to 22:00, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

“We decided to meet the request of our colleagues in Lithuania and join the people of this country on an important day for the history of the Lithuanian nation. We have an excellent relationship of cooperation and this gesture shows that just as Moldova counts on Lithuanian support, Lithuanians can be sure of our support”, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said.

Lithuanian Ambassador to Moldova Rimantas Latakas thanked parliament’s leadership noting that “16 February is the most important date in our history when we celebrate the birthday of a modern Lithuania. We appreciate that the parliament has accepted the invitation to illuminate the parliament building in the colors of the flag of Lithuania, in order to show solidarity with the Lithuanian nation. The flag is the most important national symbol, representing the centenary, uniting the entire Lithuanian nation.” He noted that in 1990, Moldova was the first state to recognize Lithuania’s independence.

According to the ambassador, the friendly and profound relations between Lithuania and Moldova include both the traditional elements of interstate cooperation, such as visits at different levels and active cooperation in culture, art, education, science and health sectors.

On 16 February, Lithuania celebrates the National Day. This year, Lithuania marks 100 years since independence.
