Moldovan parliament to organize workshop for manufacturing 1 March trinkets

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ - MPs, accompanied by children and grandchildren, along with children from other districts, on 21 February will participate in a creation workshop for the manufacture of martisors (trinkets worn in honour of 1 March), titled, Martisors for Everybody, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.    

The event will be backed by popular craftswoman Natalia Cangea, under the guidance of specialists of the Ethnography and Natural History Museum of Moldova. The workshop’s organization fits into a decision to declare Martisor as part of the intangible cultural heritage of the humanity by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).    

Attending the workshop will be Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita, Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Moldova Petar Valov, representatives of the Bucharest-based Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum, as well as children from creation centres of different Moldovan districts.    

On the same day, the parliament will host also an exhibition of traditional martisors of Romania, Bulgaria, from the collection of the Ethnography and Natural History Museum of Moldova, as well as works made in other zones of the country. These works will be exhibited and admired at the headquarters of Moldova’s parliament till 5 March.   

The martisors manufactured at the workshop will be given as presents at a charity action due on 1 March. 

The event is organized by Moldova’s parliament, in partnership with the Ethnography and Natural History Museum of Moldova and the Casa Cangea (Cangea Home) artistic trade centre. The action will take place in the parliament’s hall at the second floor starting from 13:00.  

In December 2017, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage ruled to register a multinational file, Cultural Practices Associated with the Day of 1 March, in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural List of Humanity. This is a common file of Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Macedonia.
