Moldovan PM says problems can be solved by daily communication, solutions can be identified only via dialogue

Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip chaired a working meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and Administration Council of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova (CALM) today. There were discussed possibilities of intensifying cooperation of Government and local public administration, as to ensure a sustainable partnership that contributes effectively to the development of communities, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers said that Executive was taking concrete measures to enhance dialogue with APL in order to achieve common objective, that is increase of citizens’ lives' quality. "I want to have a constructive approach, because problems are solved by communicating day by day, and the identification of solutions can only be done throughout dialogue", said Pavel Filip. 

The prime minister expressed his conviction that challenges faced by local authorities would be overcome, reiterating proposal to form a joint working group. Its composition is due to be finalized shortly after consultations with CALM’s members. Referring to the already existing communication platforms, Pavel Filip mentioned the opportunity to expand the format of the National Council for the Public Administration Reform by taking over powers of the Joint Commission for Decentralization, in order to improve cooperation in that format.

The representatives of local governments welcomed government's intention to act jointly in the interest of citizens, highlighting the problems at the local level, which could be solved by involvement of central authorities. The issues addressed by the local authorities were mostly about the decentralisation of public administration, increase in wage levels and need to reduce administrative control.

The Cabinet members responded to a number of questions and mentioned that topics discussed would be examined in detail by institutions, depending on their field of competence. At the same time, the Premier said that visits of the Government representatives to the territory would continue and urged the mayors of the localities to participate in those meetings in order to find common solutions for problems of the day. Pavel Filip also encouraged representatives of CALM to take part in government’s meetings.
