Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today visited the headquarters of the single emergency service 112, in order to assess preparations for the system’s launch, due next week, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Pavel Filip tested the functionality of the automated information system for the reception and management of calls and was informed about the way calls are taken over. The PM showed interest in the conditions of work of operators and their training for starting the activity. In discussions with operators and representatives of the institutions in charge of the service’s implementation, the prime minister stressed that the principal advantage of the single number was the shortening of the reaction time in emergency cases, as a much quicker and coordinated intervention of specialized services is possible.

So far, the headquarters of the service has been equipped, the information system has been set and the service’s visual identity materials have been worked out. At the same time, 38 operators were employed on contest basis, out of a total number of 200 files submitted. The operators were trained; at present, the courses continue for operators of the Police General Inspectorate and National Centre of Pre-hospital Medical Assistance. Also, the solution of localizing the calls is improved, jointly with the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology and mobile telephony operators, with as extended and accurate data as possible due to be provided.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip demanded clearing up of aspects needed for the efficient work of the service and emphasized the importance of an intense communication on this subject and informing citizens, including children, about the benefits of the single emergency number.

During the last year, the specialized services took over 2.7 million calls, by about ten per cent more than in 2016. Following the activation of the single European number for emergency calls 112, the numbers 901, 902 and 903 will work in parallel, till late next June, when all calls will be redirected to 112.

The project of the 112 service was initiated by Prime Minister Pavel Filip in May 2012, when he acted as Information Technology and Communication Minister.
