Chisinau, 27 March /MOLDPRES/ - “One hundred years after the Union Act from 1918, most regrettably, we have to do again with somebody’s wish to decide instead of us – how should we live and where should we wend our way to. Through diverse ways, direct and indirect, via modern tools of the hybrid war and sophisticated propaganda, they try to show our citizens that their place is not in the great European family, but elsewhere.”

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made the aforementioned statement at a solemn joint meeting of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate of Romania, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Bessarabia’s Union with Romania. Andrian Candu, along with a parliament delegation and representatives of the government of Moldova, participated in the solemn meeting of Romania’s parliament, the legislative body’s communication and public relations department has reported.

According to Andrian Candu, the economic and political pressures from abroad are aimed at distorting the Romanian and European values and the propagandistic war undermines the declarations of sovereignty and independence of Moldova and has the goal of return to the Russian geopolitical space.

What is absolutely vital for Moldova deals with the consensus which we want to have on behalf of the Romanian political establishment as to the privileged character of our relations and backing the European integration as the only best option of civilization and development, the parliament speaker said.

According to Candu, the Moldovan-Romanian relation is mature and warm, based on common values and interests. We can build together bridges, roads and businesses, we can demolish the spiritual borders through the Romanian Language, as a foundation of cohesion between us.

Andrian Candu along with a delegation of the parliament and representatives of government of Moldova participate in the solemn joint meeting of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate of Romania, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Bessarabia’s Union with Romania.

Bessarabia, as a province of the Tsarist Russia during 1812-1917, proclaimed itself Moldovan Democratic Republic in late 1917 and following the Bolshevik revolution from October, on 27 March/9April 1918, the Country Council (local parliament) voted the Union with the Kingdom of Romania. During 22 years, till 28 June 1940, Bessarabia was a province of the Kingdom of Romania.
