Members of European parliament, parliamentarians from PACE to visit capital of Moldova

Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/ – The Parliament of Moldova will host a visit of a large number of European officials next week, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Committee on Budgets will visit the Republic of Moldova on 03 – 06 April 2018 to assess the level of implementation of the Association Agreement with EU and monitor effectiveness of the use of EU financial support. The European Parliament delegation, consisting of 13 MEPs, is led by Laima Liucija Andrikienė on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Siegfried Muresan from the Committee on Budgets.

Also, co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Egidijus Vareikis and Maryvonne Blondin, will pay a visit to Moldova on 02 – 05 April 2018.

The purpose of the visit is to assess the degree of honouring obligations and commitments undertaken by Moldova towards the Council of Europe. The officials will be documented on political developments in Moldova, preparation of parliamentary elections and legislative changes related to democracy, rule of law and human rights.

The European officials will meet with Speaker of the Parliament, Andrian Candu, heads of standing committees and parliamentary factions. The agenda also includes discussions with Government, Presidency, CNA, CEC, BNM, CCA, General Prosecutor's Office, Constitutional Court, civil society and representatives of extra – parliamentary parties.

Similarly, on 05 April, Parliament will host the meeting of Moldova – EU Parliamentary Association Committee. The MPs of Moldova and MEPs will exchange views on EU – Moldova relations and developments into implementation of the Association Agreement and reforms in various areas. Following a discussion, it will be adopted a statement with recommendations to Moldovan authorities and European structures. The European Parliament will be represented by MEPs Andi Cristea, Michal Boni and Norica Nicolai, at the meeting.
