Chisinau, 17 April /MOLDPRES/- Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi has presented the experience of the Republic of Moldova in the development of electronic commerce policies at an event organized at the international level by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in partnership with the Friends of E-Commerce for Development Group of WTO Member States, promoting the revitalization of electronic commerce in the international trading system.

Since September 2017, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi has been presiding the Trade and Development Board, the governing body of UNCTAD for a mandate of 1 year, having been elected in this function following a unanimous decision by the 193 UN Member States.

The Republic of Moldova’s involvement in the promotion and negotiation processes regarding electronic commerce regulation on the global arena not only increases the visibility of our country at the international level, but also creates advantageous opportunities for the business community, particularly an opportunity for the development of micro, small and medium enterprises in the Republic of Moldova and their integration in the global commercial and economic value chains, he said.

On the margins of the event organized in Geneva within the UNCTAD E-Commerce Week, the Chief of Moldovan diplomacy has had a meeting with the Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development, Mukhisa Kituyi, discussing the issue of the implementation by the UN Member States of the reformed ASYCUDA program in the customs area, as well as the need to identify financial resources necessary for the development of customs infrastructure and the reduction of bureaucratic barriers at crossing the borders, facilitating the activity of economic agents.

Minister Ulianovschi has declared at the UN Office in Geneva that "we need a real platform for the involvement in the promotion and implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement at the international level, which has already entered into force. Developing and least developed countries need the financial and technical support of the international organizations specialized in the economic field in order to put in practice the legal provisions. It is the moment to step from declarations, negotiations and debates to concrete actions. In this sense, I will undertake an official visit to the UN Headquarters in New York during the period 23-27 April 2018, in order to present the institutional position of UNCTAD and to convince the representatives of the UN leadership in New York of the importance of economic development of some the priority areas for the international trade system and of identifying the necessary premises for the revitalization of the UN specialized agencies in the economic field. Electronic policies and digital economy will stimulate trade in goods, as well as trade in services in developing countries, including in the Republic of Moldova,” he said.
