Moldova ranks 11th in terms of digital economic opportunities for women

Chisinau, 17 April /MOLDPRES/ – The Republic of Moldova ranks 11th in terms of digital economic opportunities for women, as a result of a study, conducted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 144 countries. Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, announced it today at ministerial meeting: Promoting digital opportunities for women, held in Geneva, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

In the context, Minister Ulianovschi, who is a member of International Champions of Gender Equality in United Nations, presented Moldova's experience in promoting gender equality and empowering women in all areas of activity, including in the context of development information technology (IT) sector.

The head of Moldovan diplomacy reiterates the need to increase the number of women in all spheres of activity, especially in political and economic spheres, underlining importance of implementing gender policies and strengthening ICT field. At the same time, Minister Ulianovschi encouraged UN member states to implement educational policies to promote gender equality of women and girls' active involvement in ICT, giving as examples platforms GirlsGo IT, Women's Day in ICT, Women in TECH implemented in Moldova.

At the United Nations meeting, which Minister Tudor Ulianovschi chaired in his capacity as President of the Trade and Development Council of UNCTAD (United Nations Trade and Development Conference), ministers and governmental experts in the field of economic development and economic cooperation of Sweden, USA, Germany, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Myanmar and representatives of international organisations and civil society. The speakers were invited to present their vision of how IT reforms can help empower and facilitate occupation of women, particularly entrepreneurship.
