Moldovan writer celebrates anniversary

Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ – The prose writer, journalist, essayist and translator Ioan Manascurta, holder of order Gloria Muncii (Glory of labour), Master of Literature, winner of several literary awards, celebrates his 65th anniversary .

He was born on 28 April 1953 in village Popestii de Sus, Drochia district. In 1970 – 1975, he studied at the State University of Moldova (USM), Faculty of Philology, journalism specialty.

The first prose and publishing papers were published in magazine: Moldova, supported by editor – in – chief of this publication, Mihail Gheorghe Cibotaru and the editor – in – chief, Alexandru Gromov. After graduating from university, he was editor of newspaper: Tinerimea Moldovei (The youth of Moldova), later at magazine: Femeia Moldovei (The woman of Moldova), where he published a series of interviews with Moldovan culture personalities, as well as essays on Romanian classics. Later, he was editor – in – chief at the Union Writers' College of Translation, and Director of editorial of the Union of Writers of Moldova (USM) from 1992. He has taken up articles in the magazines: Moldova, Chiparus, newspapers: Patria tanara, Flux and other publications.

In 1979, Ioan Manascurta started editorially with volume of interviews and essays "Noi si gandurile noastre" (We and our thoughts), followed by books "Barbatii Universului" (Men of universe), "Lectia de suflet" (The lesson of soul), "Artefact" (Artifact), "Maine cand ne vom intalni pe pamant" (Tomorrow when we meet on earth), "Taierea capului" (Cutting of the head), "Marea vanatoare" (The great hunting), "Innodarea lui ceva cu altceva" (Knotting of something with something else), "Iesirea din timp" (Exiting of time), "Deslusirea semnelor" (Understanding signs) etc. His prose was translated into Russian and Ukrainian, and the teenage novel "Artifact" – in French, Czech, Japanese, and Bulgarian etc. He also published the bilingual illustrated dictionaries: "Primul meu dictionar" (My first dictionary) (Romanian – French, Romanian – Russian, Romanian – English, Romanian – Ukrainian, Romanian – Gagauz and Romanian – Bulgarian) together with painter Sergiu Puica.

He also worked at the State Information Agency (AIS) Moldpres. He is currently head of the Cultural Editorial Association Princeps.

The library of native village bears his name since 2015.
