Chisinau, 2 May /MOLDPRES/ - Physicians epidemiologists warn residents to observe all measures of preventing acute diarrheal diseases, the number of which traditionally increases in the summer months.

Data by the Public Health Agency shows that that the situation in terms of infection with acute diarrheal diseases in Moldova was regarded as unfriendly. About 20,000 cases of disease are annually recorded, including 10-20 deaths in children smaller than five years. Residents from cities most often are hit by acute diarrheal diseases.

Also, epidemiologists said that a high risk of appearance of cases of import of cholera was still maintained in Moldova, due to an intense migration, including to regions unfriendly to this disease. At the same time, physicians warn that the number of acute diarrheal diseases had significantly increased in the last years.

According to data, the following diseases are included in the group of acute diarrheal diseases: cholera, dysentery, rotavirus infection, salmonella, typhoid fever, yersiniosis.

The symptoms of this group of infections are various; yet, all trigger high fever up to 40 Celsius degrees, pain in abdomen, nausea, vomit, general weakness, headache. In children, especially in babies smaller than one year, the symptoms develop quicker than in adults and the health condition may worsen in a short time.

In the case of appearance of symptoms of acute diarrheal diseases, self-treatment is not allowed, especially when these symptoms develop in children. The basic recommendation is an urgent consultation of a family physician, with the prescribing of a proper treatment.
