Moldovan folk music singer marks birthday

Chisinau, 3 May /MOLDPRES/ - A folk music singer, Lidia Bejenaru, turned 65 today.
Lidia Bejenaru was born in the Tiplesti village, northern Sangerei district, on 3 May 1953.
In 1968-1971, Bejenaru studied at the E. Sarbu Culture School (presently Nicolae Botgros Arts College) from Soroca. During 1971-1972, she worked as methodist at the Community Centre from Edinet and was head of a band of dancers. In 1973-1974, Bejenaru was soloist of the Mugurel folk music orchestra; afterwards, in 1974-1977, 1979 and so far, Lidia Bejenaru has worked as soloist of the Lautarii (The Fiddlers) folk music orchestra. In 1971, Bejenaru married the future conductor of the Lautarii Orchestra, Nicolae Botgros.
Lidia Bejenaru composed the music and wrote texts for most songs of her repertoire. The first musical album of the singer appeared following 20 years of work on stage. Bejenaru recorded more folk songs at the national radio and television. During her entire artistic career, she made more national and international tours with the Lautarii Orchestra.
In 1993, Lidia Bejenaru was awarded the Meritul Civic (Civic Merit) medal and in 2010 – the honorific title, People’s Artist.
