New local elections take place in seven localities of Moldova

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/ – The new local elections take place today in seven localities of Moldova, including Chisinau and Balti municipalities.

Similarly, elections will take place in Leuseni commune and Nemteni village (Hincesti district), Volovita commune (Soroca district), Jora de Mijloc commune (Orhei district) and Parlita commune (Ungheni district).

There has been a total number of 30 candidates within electoral race. Out of these, 8 are women and 22 are men. Most candidates for Mayor’s office were registered in Chisinau and Balti municipalities: 11 and 8 candidates, respectively.

There were included in race for leadership of Chisinau: Silvia Radu (independent candidate), Ion Ceban (PSRM), Constantin Codreanu (PUN), Andrei Nastase (PPDA, PAS, PLDM), Alexandr Rosco (PCNM) (PDA), Valeriu Munteanu (PL), Victor Stratila (PVE), Alexandra Can (PNL), Maxim Braila (PP) and Alexandru Mitu (PRSM).

The candidates which will fight for leadership of Balti municipality are: Alexandru Usatii (PSRM), Arina Spataru (PPDA), Pavel Verejan (PS), Nicolae Grigorisin (PN), Sergiu Burlacu (PUN), Simion Gutu (PAS), Oleg Topolnitski (PRSM) and Elena Gritco (independent candidate).

There were registered three candidates in electoral race in Jora de Mijloc commune, Orhei district, and two candidates in Leuseni commune and Nemteni village, Hancesti district, Volovita commune, Soroca district, Parlita commune, Ungheni district.

The polling stations opened at 07:00 and will close at 21:00.

The Continuing Education Electoral Centre (CICDE) and Central Electoral Commission (CEC) have established an info line on voting procedures within new local elections. The citizens can call on phone number (022) 88 01 01. Here they can find out about section where they vote and voting procedure, resolution of various situations related to electoral procedures, filing of appeals and checking in electoral lists.

There have been printed over 752,000 ballots for new local elections.

Out of these, about 474 thousand are in Romanian, while another around 277 thousand – in Russian. The longest ballot (344 mm) is for elections in Chisinau, as most of candidates have been registered here. A ballot printed for elections in Chisinau costs MDL 0,28, while for other localities – MDL 0,24.

There were allocated MDL 22.5 million for organisation of elections in Chisinau and Balti municipalities.

If none of the candidates obtains more than half of votes, there will take place a second ballot in a fortnight, where citizens will choose between the two electoral candidates accumulating most votes within first round.
