Ion Ceban picks up 41 per cent of votes, Andrei Nastase 32 per cent after processing of over 80 per cent of official reports at local polls in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Ion Ceban, leads in the electoral race for the Chisinau general mayor office. He is followed by the candidate of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA), Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) and Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Andrei Nastase, and the independent candidate, Silvia Radu.
After the processing of more than 80 per cent of the official reports, PSRM candidate Ion Ceban got over 41 per cent of the votes, Andrei Nastase (PPDA, PAS and PLDM) – almost 32 per cent, Silvia Radu (independent candidate) – circa 18%, Constantin Codreanu (National Unity Party) – about 4 per cent, Valeriu Munteanu (Liberal Party) – about 4 per cent, Vasile Costiuc (Party Democracy at Home) – 0.24 per cent, Alexandr Rosco (Our Home Moldova Party) - 0.2 per cent, Maxim Braila (People’s Party) – 0.15 per cent, Victor Stratila (Green Ecologist Party) – 0.18 per cent, Alexandra Can – (National Liberal Party) – 0.18 per cent and Alexandru Mitu (Russian Slavic party of Moldova) – 0.17 per cent.
More than 225,000 citizens participated in the local elections in Chisinau, which accounts for almost 36 per cent of the voters.
If none of the candidates in the polls gets more than a half of the electors’ votes, a run-off will be held in two weeks, during which citizens will have to elect one of the two electoral contenders who picked up most votes in the first round of the polls.
