Third issue of towels'festival to be held in south Moldova town

Chisinau, 23 May /MOLDPRES/- The traditional hand-towel tradition will be recalled on 27 May within the 3rd edition of the Towels' Festival.

The event is organized by the Selemet Mayoralty and Migrant Families public association in partnership with the US Agency for International Development, the Swedish government, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the Diaspora Relations Office, with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

“iProsop is dedicated to making handmade towel to turn to good account this precious handicraft item present in every home, promoting it in all possible ways – cultural, artistic, historical – as an element of decoration and empowerment of citizens. We want to highlight the ethnic and regional traditions and customs, related to the national costumes, gastronomy, folklore and traditional,” according to a communique by the Diaspora Relations Office.

“The program prepared for this holiday will offer more surprises for visitors, being an attempt to combine the past with the present, to give the tradition modern elements, making it especially attractive for young people and tourists. Culture in the Southern Region of Moldova has a rich potential that needs to be developed and made profitable,” according to sources in Selemet.

The festival will bring together dozens of folk craftsmen, folk bands from country and abroad, popular artists, representatives of ethnic groups from the southern part of the country – Gagauz, Ukrainians, Bulgarians and others.

The event will take place under the auspices of the Tree of Life brand and campaign #fiioaspetelenostru.
