Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has forecast Yellow Code of exceptional fire danger almost throughout Moldova till 31 May.

According to meteorologists, the exceptional danger of natural fire (category 5) and threat of fire of forest belts and agricultural crops will be maintained in the central, southern and partially northern regions till this date.

Rescuers and sylviculturists warned that farmlands, storehouses of fodder, forest vegetation zones, dwellings and extensions can catch fire.

Competent services demand that residents avoid the use of open fire nearby houses, annexes and storehouses of fodder, on lands covered with dry vegetation, especially when they are placed nearby forests, plantations or objects with high risk of fire. At the same time, they recommend restricting the carrying out of works which create friendly conditions for fires through emissions of volatile substances or excessive overheating.

Specialists say that 105-150 mm of precipitation or about 24 per cent of the annual sum of precipitation is recorded in spring. The driest spring was registered in 2003, when, during the season, the precipitation stood at half of the norm – 30-60 mm, throughout Moldova. In the spring of 1991, on the contrary, the sum of precipitation (200-280 mm) exceeded the norm twice, in most regions of the country. The daily maximum quantity of precipitation for this season stood at 30-100 mm in the territory.

According to SHS, the air temperature is to increase up to +25 - +29 Celsius degrees all over Moldova on the days to come; at the same time, thunderstorm rains are possible in the northern region.
