Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/- Visiting Balti, Prime Minister Pavel Filip met the mayor of Balti, Nicolai Grigorișin, who asked for the government’s help in overcoming the garbage crisis faced by the city, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The premier said that the central public authorities are ready to intervene each time they are asked for help and hopes that the parties to the dispute will negotiate to find a solution.

“We will collect facts and will certainly intervene, as we did every time. Whether we are talking about Chisinau when it was an extraordinary crisis, and we found solutions, and we intervened last winter in Balti, and this time of course we will intervene where possible and is for the central authority,” he said.

The premier noted that waste management remains a problem for Moldova, because so far there has been no clear vision in the field. Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment is working to come up with a new approach to this.

At the same time, Filip reiterated he wants good communication and collaboration with local authorities. “For me there is no political color when talking about the relationship of central public administration – local public administration. There is also the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, with whom we have returned to constructive and pragmatic discussions and we will  continue in this way”.

Due to a debt of over 2.3 million lei of Balti mayoralty to the waste polygons manager, the special vehicles do not have anywhere to transport the garbage. Officials say they have no money to pay for this debt, and do not have enough sources to transport garbage.

In late December, the government was involved in solving the situation caused by the disruption of the waste transportation process in Balti municipality. Several state institutions have provided the necessary equipment and personnel for this intervention, the costs were from the government’s reserve fund.
