Over 120,000 citizens participate in runoff of lcoal elections in capital by 13:00

Chisinau, 3 June /MOLDPRES/- Over 120,000 citizens participated in the local elections in the capital until 13:00, which represents more than 19 per cent. Representatives of the Chisinau district election council made the statement today.

The electoral authorities have denied the information that at two polling stations applications have been submitted requesting mobile ballot carried out by the same person.

Until 13:00, more women than men were present at ballot. About 5,500 voters are between 18 and 25 years, over 24,000 voters are  between 26 and 40 years, nearly 28,000 – between 41 and 55 years, 46,647 – between 56 and 70 years, and 16,122 are aged over 71 years.

Of the total number of voters who have participated in the polls, 19.87 per cent are from Botanica district, 19.23 per cent – Buiucani, about 19.5 per cent – Centre, 18.41 per cent – Ciocana, 20.42 per cent –Rascani and nearly 16.09 per cent – suburbs.

Polling stations opened at 07:00 and close at 21:00.

Under the information by the Central Electoral Commission, in Chisinau over 631,000 voters are included in the basic lists, of whom the few are registered in the Centre sector and most of them in the Botanica district of the capital.

The mayor general elected after the runoff will perform duties until the local elections in June 2019. After the 20 May local elections, Ion Ceban, a candidate from the Party of Socialists of Moldova (40.97 per cent of votes) and Andrei Nastase, candidate of the Dignity and Truth Party (32.12 per cent), remained enrolled in elections. The winner in the runoff will be the candidate who will get the highest number of votes.
