Over 80 per cent of official reports processed: Ion Ceban - 48.1 per cent, Andrei Nastase - 51.9 per cent

Chisinau, 3 June /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate on behalf of the Dignity and Truth Platform Political Party, Andrei Nastase, has picked up 51.9 per cent of the votes and the candidate of the Party of Socialists Political Party of Moldova, Ion Ceban, got about 48.1 of the suffrages, after the processing of more than 80 per cent of the official reports.
According to preliminary data, as many as 248,674 voters exercised their right to vote at the 3 June polls, which accounts for 39.12 per cent.
The general mayor elected following the runoff will exercise his powers till the local general polls due in June 2019. The Electoral Code sees that the candidate getting the largest number of votes, no matter the number of electors who took part in the polls, is considered to be elected. If the two candidates pick up an equal number of suffrages, the candidate who got more votes at the first round of the polls is regarded elected.
