Yellow code of drought remains in force for another week in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ – The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has extended Yellow Code of drought by 18 June and Yellow Code for exceptional bonire danger is in force until 13 June.

According to the SHS’s information and media communication service, there is evidence of hydrological drought within rivers and lakes of Moldova due to lack of precipitation and high temperatures. "We call on economic agents and population to consume water resources rationally," stated institution.  

According to meteorologists, until 13 June, there will be an exceptional bonfire hazard level V, of a natural character, and a bonfire threat of forest strips and agricultural crops throughout Moldova.

The drought and high temperatures have already caused damage to agricultural producers. However, on 11 June, between Congaz and Svetlii communes in Gagauzia, a ten – hectare field with a dry grass burned entirely.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) warned public about compliance with anti – fire rules. The firefighters asked citizens not to ignite dry vegetation and household waste, avoid ignition of rust and stubble, and in case of bonfires, even insignificant, call 112. Also, if they are noticed in adjacent forests or territories out of ordinary, specialists of Moldsilva Agency ask to be contacted at hotline 022 211 311.
