British lawmakers support reforms promoted by Moldovan authorities

Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/- We support the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to continue the reforms and we are willing to give all the necessary support in this process. The conservative lawmaker, chairman of the Friendship Group with Moldova, John Whittingdale, made the statement at a meeting with Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, who is on a working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 17-20 June, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.

The Moldovan delegation and APPGM group exchanged views on the current stage of the Moldovan-British relations and their developments after Brexit, the solutions to boost the political dialogue between the two states, the bilateral cooperation in various fields, etc. In this context, the British MPs stressed the interest in boosting the interparliamentary dialogue, saying they are following the evolutions in Moldova after the changes approved in the Election Code, expressing their intention to participate as observers in the parliamentary elections this year.

A special topic of the discussions was the Transnistrian conflict problem and the measures taken by the national authorities in peaceful settlement. APPGM members reiterated unconditional support for Moldova in this process, respecting the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

The Moldovan official proposed to British MPs to create a joint parliamentary platform for the development of bilateral relations between Moldova and the United Kingdom, which will aim to promote cooperation between the two countries in the context of Brexit’s entry into force.

The participants in the meeting also discussed other topic issues in bilateral relations, including economic and investment cooperation, consolidation of democratic institutions, travel regime, Moldovan diaspora activity in the UK, etc.
