Ten community security council set up in southern district of Moldova

Chisinau, 17 July /MOLDPRES/ - The authorities of the southern Cahul district, in cooperation with the region’s police, have recently created local security councils in ten villages from southern Moldova. These councils are aimed at informing residents about the work of the police.   

”We have organized more meetings of the local security councils, which allowed settling a string of problems, identified together with the community,” the head of the Cahul Police Inspectorate, Iurie Briceag, has told MOLDPRES.  

According to Briceag, the police carry out more volunteering campaigns. Yet, “people should know about them, if we want them to be efficient.” In the context, the head of the Cahul police nominated the actions Supervising the Neighbourghood, Careful Grandparents, other information campaigns undertaken by law-enforcement bodies.   

„Such campaigns are, first of all, for the citizens, who must know the needed ways of preventing home burglaries, frauds and thefts from cars, prevention of domestic violence, prevention and combating of juvenile delinquency and victimization of minors, etc.” Iurie Briceag said. According to him, the most active partners of the police in carrying out social activities will be awarded prizes.   

The actions undertaken by the Police Inspectorate from the Cahul district were covered in an opinion poll on the work of the local police, conducted by the Public Policies Institute. Thus, the data of the scientific research showed that the degree of residents’ satisfaction with the work of the Cahul police grew by 16 per cent against 2017 (from 60 to 76 per cent).    

The opinion polls on the police’s activity were conducted by the Public Policies Institute in six pilot regions of the project, Promotion of civil society’s involvement in strengthening the community security, in 2017 and 2018. The project is carried out in partnership with the General Police Inspectorate and is financially backed by the U.S. Department of State.
