Director Viorel Mardare nominated for National Prize at initiative of Prime Minister

Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/- Members of the National Prize Committee convened today at government to examine the applications of candidates attending the contest. The expert groups' opinions were submitted for 19 cases - the candidates being proposed for performance in medicine, art, culture, agriculture, science, literature and history, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

By exception, following a proposal of Prime Minister Pavel Filip, renowned director Viorel Mardare was nominated for awarding the National Prize. "My proposal comes in appreciation - he is a well-known director and author of several short films that have succeeded in promoting the Republic of Moldova. Unfortunately, no one of those who realized this young man's talent had ever thought of submitting application,” he said.

According to the regulation, the committee members expressed their opinion by secret ballot. The names of the 2018 National Prize winners will be made public after the approval of the government decision. Winners will get their awards on 24 August at the National Awards Gala.

The National Prize, worth 100,000 lei, is given to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for remarkable achievements that have substantially enriched science, technology, culture, art and sport, contributed to promoting the positive image of the country internationally, had a considerable impact on technical-scientific and socio-economic progress.
