Number of measles patients increases within recent week in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/ – The number of measles patients has increased in recent week, reaching 239 cases. There were confirmed 17 of them in September, so it is maintained the Orange code of measles in Moldova.

According to the data of the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection, during 01 – 25 September, there were recorded 17 cases of measles. The last measles disease case was recorded in village Copceac, Ceadar – Lunga district, on 23 September, when six children contacted the virus from a minor who was with his family in Germany. All sick children are not vaccinated and do not attend educational institutions.

In this context, the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS) urges and asks all parents who see signs of illness in children to contact their family doctor immediately. Measles is a dangerous and contagious disease and a patient can infect 18 persons.

The authorities announce that the Orange Code for the spread of measles is maintained throughout Moldova, with 24-hour epidemiological surveillance.

The MSMPS emphasises that vaccination is the only and most effective method of preventing measles and urges people to vaccinate themselves in order to be protected from communicable diseases.
