Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/ – The transition to the winter time of 2018 will take place on Saturday (27 October) to Sunday (28 October), when at 03:00 a.m., the clocks will be given an hour backwards, and this day will be the longest of the year. The specialists warn that this annual event is felt differently from people and advises us to be more careful about the night.

According to a study by the University of Texas (USA), quoted by several news mass media, the shift in winter increases the risk of road accidents, both on the night between Saturday and Sunday and the following period.

"On the night of the event, the risk of road accidents increases by around 7 per cent over the previous period, and in the morning the risk is even higher by 14 per cent, while sleep disturbances can occur because the body is difficult to accommodate changing and gradually adapting to the new rhythm of life, which could lead to an acute state of fatigue, and in that period, the senses will not be as sharp," according to quoted sources.

"The change even at the emotional level begins with the transition to the winter time." The darkness that "hurts" an hour earlier than before makes us feel sad and tired and even experience depression. day and disruption of the biological clock lead to a seasonal affective disorder," say doctors.

Also, the experts say that "fortunately this condition will most likely pass after the first week after the change of time, but it is good to pay attention to the symptoms of depression and try to fight them as soon as we become aware of them, in order not to remain anchored in this state."

Here are the symptoms that can occur when switching to winter time: increased appetite, lack of energy, nervousness, stress etc.

"It is not necessarily everyone to be affected by the change of time. Most of the time, I feel the event of people with sensory or chronic diseases of the nervous or cardiovascular system, which must not deviate from the usual regime prescribed by the doctor, take the indicated medication and wait for a short period of time until the biological clock is adapted to the outside one," said Sofronie Cicala, a family doctor at a healthcare centre of Moldova.

Moldova will operate the winter shift, which is carried out in accordance with the proposal of the European Economic Commission (EEC) of the United Nations (UN), along with the member states of the European Community (EC). The transition from summer time to winter time takes place in 70 countries worldwide, respecting the time difference.

Most European countries have instituted this system as a result of the oil crisis of 1973 – 1974, to save energy. The objective of changing the time was mainly to make the hours of activity more consistent with sunny hours in order to limit the use of artificial light.
