Moldovans with pensions lower than 1,589 lei to receive by ten per cent more as of 1 January 2019

Chisinau, 14 November /MOLDPRES/ - The pensioners getting pensions lower than 1,598 lei will receive by ten per cent higher pensions starting from 1 January 2019. The cabinet today approved a draft law on the additional financial support for some beneficiaries of pensions, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

„These are the fruits of our work carried out so far, when we spoke and implemented the reform of the pensions system. This was a reform meant to bring balance and fairness into the pensions system and removed an injustice which had been in this system. Now, there is an increase in pensions and this is true growth,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip stressed.   

About 567 million lei is necessary to implement the draft in 2019. The money will be allocated from the State Budget or the state social insurances budget, depending on the source of pension’s financing. The increase will not affect the other social benefits enjoyed by people with low pensions, including the social benefit for the cold period of the year.   

Also, as of 1 January 2019, decision-makers will start re-examining, stage-by-stage, the pensions of those who worked after retirement, and starting from 1 April, a new indexation of pensions will be made.
