Icy roads in Moldova

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/- All national routes are passable under winter conditions. There are icy roads, and workers are carrying out works to combat the slide.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, precipitations as sleet were recorded in the localities: Ungheni, Soroca, Orhei, Leuşeni, Dubăsari, Bender, Anenii Noi, Căuşeni, Ştefan Vodă, Hânceşti, Cimişlia, Comrat, Vulcăneşti, Leova, Cahul, Edineț, Otaci, Bălţi, Făleşti and Rezina.

"Dangerous sectors are monitored to intervene urgently if necessary. I urge drivers to be alert to traffic. However, drivers should ensure that means of transport are adapted to winter conditions,” Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici said.

The head of the State Road Administration Operational Service, Sergiu Căpăţină, said that during the night, patrol and anti-slide works were carried out on national roads. "There were 129 special vehicles and 251 workers. Road workers used over 1,856 tons of anti-skid material. At present, all road sectors are monitored,” he said.

Acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu held a working meeting on the roads issues. He asked for mobilization of municipal services to ensure cleaning of sidewalks, access ways in stations, main and secondary streets. At present, the streets in the capital are passable in winter conditions.

The head of the press service of the National Patrol Inspectorate, Alina Bunghez, said "due to the low temperature, there are icy roads. Patrol inspectors are actively working. At the same time, they are accompanying the special vehicles that spread anti-skid material.”

The State Hydrometeorological Service announced the yellow icy code throughout the country. The weather is cooling down in the following days. The air temperature will reach -9 degrees at night in the north and -3 degrees during the day in the south. Snowfall is expected in some areas.
