About 25 thousand people registered for parliamentary elections

Chisinau, 10 January /MOLDPRES/- About 25 thousand people were registered for the 24 February parliamentary elections.

According to the official website of the Central Electoral Commission, yesterday the voter registration period ended 45 days before the poll. At the same time, not later than 25 days before the election day, the person can cancel the previous registration.

According to data, in total, 24,585 citizens from 1,752 localities were registered for election. Most registered people are from Italy (5308), United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (3553), Romania (2991), Germany (2228) and France (2010).

The pre-registration was valid for citizens of the Republic of Moldova with voting rights who are abroad or residing in localities from the left bank of the Dniestre River and intend to participate in the parliamentary elections.

Pre-registration allows the estimated number of voters to vote out of the country and voters of Transnistria to facilitate the opening of additional polling stations and the determination of the estimated number of ballots to be distributed to the respective polling stations.

For the presidential election in 2016, a total of 3,400 citizens were pre-registered.
