Over 140 pupils miss classes because of bad weather in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 January /MOLDPRES/ - More than 140 pupils from the districts of Cantemir and Hancesti today did not go to school because of the bad weather. A head of directorate at the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, Valentin Crudu, has presented information to this effect. The situation emerged following the last days’ snowfall today afternoon was analyzed at a meeting of the commission for emergency situations, presided over the Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici.      

At the meeting, Director of the State Administration of Roads Gheorghe Curmei said that there were no blocked roads at present. As much as 1,750 tons of antiskid material has been distributed on Moldova’s roads and 244 special equipments and 254 workers acted.  

The state secretary at the Economics and Infrastructure ministry, Anatol Usatai, informed that no disconnections from power supply had been recorded so far.

For his part, the head of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, Mihail Harabagiu, noted that the situation was calm and under control in Moldova.  

The state general secretary at the Health and Social Protection Ministry, Boris Galca, said that all medical institutions from Moldova worked as normal and the reserves of medicines were provided.   

Representatives of the Border Police said that all border crossing points worked in normal regime.

The acting general mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu, said that the road traffic was carried out without difficulties in the Moldovan capital and the snow-removal services continue intervening on secondary streets, pavements, ways of access to yards of blocks of flats, parks and squares.    

At the same time, the Chisinau city hall urges drivers not to park on edges of streets and pavements, in order to avoid the crowding of the traffic and allow snow-removal machines to intervene in due time. Also, economic agents from Chisinau and managers of real estate are warned to clean the snow on the area where they work.  

The State Hydrometeorological Service announced a Yellow Code of complicated weather conditions for 10-11 January. On these days, snowfall is expected, with snowstorm temporarily and snow drifts are not form on roads, sleet and silver thaw are to precipitate on electric wires and branches.
