Lyceum from north Moldova city renovated with EU money

Chisinau, 14 February /MOLDPRES/ - A project on enhancing the energy efficiency is to be carried out at the Dimitrie Cantemir theoretical lyceum from the northern Balti city, due to a regional development programme financed by the European Union.     

The project is implemented by the North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord) and the work stages are monitored by a local managing committee (CDL), set up for a better involvement of the benefiting sides. On 13 February, this CDL held its first meeting in 2019 and agreed on further measures, assessing also the work carried out in the last months. Attending the meeting were teachers, as well as parents and pupils, who made proposals on the project.    

According to ADR Nord, as a result of the project’s implementation, the standardized annual consumption of energy will decrease by 547 MW/hour at this education institution and the standardized annual emissions of carbon dioxide – by 125 tons. The estimative value of the project on energy optimization of the Balti-based lyceum amounts to 1.236 million euros. The technical documentation on the carrying out of the works on restoration of the school through energy optimization is elaborated at present.

“The energy optimization of the public buildings is a goal as important as the supply with water, waste management or reconstruction of roads. The projects to this end are priority for our Agency and will have continuity, as all means needed for the implementation will be accessed,” ADR Nord director Vitali Povonschi said.

The project titled, Enhancement of the energy efficiency of the Dimitrie Cantemir theoretical lyceum from the Balti city, is financed by the European Union, in cooperation with the project, Modernization of local public services in Moldova. The latter project is implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation, in partnership with the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry and financially backed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, governments of Sweden, Romania and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
