Over 1,750 Moldovans infected with flu since beginning of cold season

Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/- Over 1,750 Moldovans have caught the flu, and another 28 have died of this virus since the beginning of the cold season.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, on 1 October 2018 - 24 February 2019 there were 1,754 cases of influenza and 205667 cases of acute respiratory infections. At the same time, there were 28 cases of death, of which 26 confirmed with the presence of the influenza A (H1N1) virus. All deceased people have not been vaccinated against seasonal influenza.

In the past week, specialists recorded 205 cases of seasonal influenza, including 32 confirmed by the laboratory, 14016 cases of upper respiratory tract infections and 556 cases of severe acute respiratory infections. Samples taken from influenza patients showed the presence of A (H1N1) and A (H3N2) viruses.

According to World Health Organization data, influenza continues to grow in the European region. A large number of influenza-related deaths are recorded in Romania and Ukraine.

To avoid illness, epidemiologists recommend that citizens refrain from self-treatment and contact their doctor for the first symptoms of influenza-compatible disease.
