Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/- Petrol and diesel prices will be calculated by the operators, not by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), according to the methodology on formation and application of petroleum prices, approved today by ANRE in a public meeting.
"The new methodology is similar to that approved in 2007 and applied until April 2016. ANRE received 43 objections and project proposals, of which 12 were accepted. The main objection was the rate of profitability, "the head of the ANRE Licensing, Monitoring and Control Department, Andrei Adam, said.
Under the methodology, the prices will be set by operators, taking into account the annual costs and rates of return on oil products sold at most 10 percent. This is also provided for in the amendments approved by parliament to the Law on oil products market, which entered into force on 1 January 2019.
ANRE will no longer set ceiling prices as it has done in recent years.
Representatives of oil companies said that as soon as the new methodology enters into force, they will reduce the pump prices, which are currently not in line with the real costs.
The methodology will come into force after its publication in the Official Journal of Moldova, ANRE director-general Veaceslav Untila said.
