Centre for children at risk to be opened in south Moldova town

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ – A temporary placement centre for children in difficulty will be opened in Ceadar – Lunga, following a partnership between the local administration (AL), a non – governmental organisation (NGO), with the support of external donors (DE).

The programme of the Centre provides for accommodation beneficiaries from 30 days up to 180 days. During this period, social assistance services together with the police will seek solutions for each child, including a place of living. Subsequently, the authorities will monitor the way of life and maintenance of each under – aged one. "The main purpose of this centre is to help children who have reached a difficult stage in their lives in support of their integration into society," say sources from the administration of Ceadar – Lunga district.

This institution will be the first of its kind in the Gagauz autonomy. However, in the case of children who are left without care or home, they are accommodated in different social structures in Moldova. According to local police data, there are registered 56 underprivileged children at the Inspectorate of Ceadar – Lunga. Statistics show that most of them run away from home and practice vagabondage. Also, according to official info, more than ten children in Ceadar – Lunga district face different forms of domestic violence annually.

"The placement centre for children in difficulty will be arranged on the territory of the district hospital in Ceadar – Lunga, which will facilitate the healthcare of the beneficiaries. The institution will have rooms for girls and boys, mothers with children, a kitchen, a canteen for rest, a sanitary block, as well as rooms for methodical and educational activities, social, psychological, legal advice etc.", said the mentioned sources.

The project is realised throughout the means provided by the European Union under the project: Better social services through a sustainable partnership between the civil society and Government, co – funded and implemented by Soros Foundation – Moldova in partnership with Keystone Moldova Association and NGO Alliance active in the field of child and family social protection and the Alliance of Organisations for people with disabilities.
