Exports grew 2.5 times faster than imports in first two months of 2019

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan imports of goods grew by 3.7 percent in the first two months of this year, but exports accelerated strongly, advancing by 9.1 percent, according to data by the National Statistics Bureau.

It is a reverse trend to the one recorded in 2018, when exports grew by 11.6 percent during the year and imports increased by 19.3 percent.

As a result of the evolution of foreign trade, in the first two months of 2019, the balance of payments deficit, although, according to statisticians, remained "significantly" decreased by 2.7 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2018. The trade deficit was 356.1 million dollars in January-February.

Moldova exported goods worth 475.7 million dollars and imported 831.8 million dollars in the first two months of 2019. Moldovan goods to the EU market accounted for 64.4% of exports, and Romania maintained its leading position with 122.6 million dollars export turnover.

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure expects an increase in exports in 2019 by 13.1 percent over last year to 3.45 billion dollars and an increase in imports by 9.4 percent to 6.5 billion lei.
