233 km of railway of Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti section to be rehabilitated

Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/- 233 km of railway of Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti section will be rehabilitated. Work is expected to start this year. The first stage of the tender will be completed in early May. The issue was discussed by Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici and administration of the Moldovan Railway Enterprise (CFM).

The project is worth over 55 million euros and will be implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank and the European Union.

With the rehabilitation of the section, works will take place on renovation of Giurgiulesti station, renewal and modernization of the railway lines, control-command and signalling and telecommunications.

"We must succeed to rebuild the railway from Ungheni station to Chisinau, then we will be able to increase the speed and volume of freight transported on this segment, the transport tariff will decrease, which will reduce the volume of freight transported on roads,” he said.

The work would be completed in 2021.
