Chisinau, 7 May /MOLDPRES/- We want the Eastern Partnership to contribute to greater cohesion between the European Union and its Eastern partners, notably through several initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens and creating new platforms for cooperation in different areas between the EU and the EaP countries. Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi made the statement at a meeting of foreign ministers of the Visegrad Group (V4) and Eastern Partnership member states held on 6 May in Bratislava, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.

Ulianovschi noted that Moldova hopes that the Eastern Partnership will continue to be a successful initiative, but this requires a long-lasting vision that combines the deepening of both political dialogue and sectoral cooperation. In this context, he confirmed the willingness of the Republic of Moldova to actively contribute to the reflection process on the future of the Eastern Partnership and noted the importance of this initiative for sustainability of the reform process.

The official approached the goal to strengthen the cooperation with EU in energy and transport sector, focusing on infrastructure investment projects. Also, he opted for rapprochement of service quality in the Eastern Partnership states to EU standards.

The talks were focused on achievements in various areas of cooperation and coordination of policy visions on future of EaP.

The Visegrád Group was set up in 1991 by the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. The group’s goal was to provide mutual support in the European integration. Following the 2004 EU accession of the four states, the Visegrád Group has strengthened its status as a political and cultural cooperation organization. Bratislava meeting of the Visegrád Group and the Eastern Partnership was organized at the initiative of the Slovak Presidency.
