Exhibition dedicated to Council of Europe inaugurated at National Library of Moldova

Chisinau, 8 May /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition and event titled, Explore Those 70 Years of Council of Europe’s Work, was inaugurated at the National Library (BNRM) today. The event was organized in cooperation with the Council of Europe’s Office in Chisinau, in the context of the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe, with the slogan, Our Rights, Our Freedoms, Our Europe.   

Attending the inauguration were Head of the Council of Europe’s Office in Chisinau William Massolin, Ambassador of France to Moldova Pascal Le Deunff, Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Daniel Ionita, the state secretary at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry Tatiana Molcean, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau, culture and art people.  

Contacted by MOLDPRES, BNRM director Elena Pintilei said that the exhibition “suggests an excursion to the history, policies, achievements, priorities and impact of the Council as regards: the human rights, democracy, justice, children, young people, culture, education and sport, health and medicine, environment. At the same time, visitors were able to get information on the development of relations and partnership between the Council of Europe and Moldova, joint programmes of the Council of Europe and European Union, carried out in and for Moldova,” Elena Pintilei stressed.    

According to the director of the National Library, 14 exhibition panels provided by the Council of Europe are presented also here, which represent the version in the Romanian and Russian languages of the things displayed at an anniversary exhibition, opened at the headquarters of the Council of Europe on 8 April 2019. They illustrate the retrospective of those 70 years of history and work of CoE through relevant chronological information since the foundation of the Council of Europe till present (1949-2019), for each ten-year period separately.  

In his speech, Head of the Council of Europe’s Office in Chisinau William Massolin said that Moldova was the first country of the Commonwealth of Independent States to become member of the Council of Europe on 13 July 1995. Moldova’s parliament ratified the European Convention on Human Rights on 24 July 1997.  

In the context, the state secretary at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry Tatiana Molcean said that Moldova had signed about 100 treaties within the Council of Europe. For his part, Ambassador of France to Moldova Pascal Le Deunff referred to the democratic values offered by CoE.

The exhibition will be opened till 30 June.
