Moldova, Finland to extend cooperation in education sector

Chisinau, 08 May /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, has had a meeting with the Ambassador of Finland to Moldova, Päivi Pohjanheimo, today on occasion of the end of her mandate of ambassador in Moldova. The head of Executive thanked the diplomat for her work, mentioning the dynamic character of bilateral dialogue, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Especially, the Premier appreciated Finland's attitude and support for the European agenda of Moldova. "We have felt this support also in the Eastern Partnership. It is important to maintain this pace, including during the Finnish Presidency at the EU Council," said Pavel Filip.

The head of Government also expressed gratitude for the support of Finland on settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, as well as for the willingness to share the experience gained on common security and defence policy issues.

Among the most vital projects implemented with the support of Finland in Moldova, there were highlighted projects in such fields, like: education, protection of the rights of persons with physical difficulties, mass media freedom, cyber security and prevention of hybrid threats. The parties agreed to extend cooperation in the field of education. Pavel Filip specified that the field of education was declared a priority for current Government, and the Finnish experience in this regard is a valuable one.

The PM has said that Moldova wishes some closer cooperation with Finland in economy too, stating that the reforms promoted by Government have helped to improve the business environment, which has become more attractive to foreign investors.

Ambassador Päivi Pohjanheimo thanked the authorities for their good cooperation throughout the mandate and expressed the willingness of the Finnish side to continue bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
