Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/ - The hydrological centre of the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) today issued two warnings which show the increase in the level of water in the Prut and Dniester rivers, between the settlements Ungheni, Leova and Cantemir and, respectively, Naslavcea, Dubasari and Bender.

The hydrological centre warns that, in the time interval 21-29 May, the water level will increase by 1.2 metres on the Ungheni-Leova sector of the Prut river and – by 0.5-1 metre on the segment Leova-Cantemir.

According to hydrologists, the water will flow to meadows in low places.

The increase in the water level in the Prut river is “in connection with a decision by the department of the Costesti-Stanca Hydro-technical Knot to increase the volume of discharge of water from the Costesti-Stanca reservoir (Prut river) up to 550 cubic metres/second,” the quoted source said.

At the same time, a warning is also issued for the Dniester river too. Thus, given the increase in the volume of water discharged from the Dnestrovsk reservoir (Dniester river) up to 700 cubic metres/second on 21-31 May, the water level will grow by up to 1.2 metres on the segments Naslavcea-Dubasari and Dubasari- Bender. According to the hydrological centre, the water will flow down within the limits of the minor river bed.

Five hydrological warnings have been already issued during May 2019. Four of them regard the increase in the water volume in the Prut river and one in the Dniester river.
