Kindergartens from Moldova to no longer have 42-days-long vacation during summer

Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Education, Culture and Research Ministry has come up with specifications on the regime of work of kindergartens during summer. On the whole, the specifications show that the pre-school institutions have vacation; yet, in certain cases, by common consent with the local public authority, parents and manager of the kindergartens, children’s institutionalization is not interrupted in summer.

According to the provisions of a regulation of the competent ministry, starting from March 2016, “the early education institutions work continuously during the entire year, with a vacation for carrying out sanitation, disinsection works, current and/or capital repairs, providing leaves to institution’s staff, in line with the Labour Code.”

At the same time, according to the stipulations of an order from July 2017, the vacation period is established by the “local public authority, with the preliminary consultation of the institution’s management, parents/legal representatives of children, as case may be, till 1 December of the current year and is brought to the knowledge of all parents, with posting at visible place, at least 30 days before the vacation begins.”

Also, "during the vacation, the local public authority and the institution’s leadership, if needed, undertaken actions of institutionalizing children through contracting nearby institutions, in the area of the administrative and territorial unit, which work on the concerned period and have possibility to take over children or provide alternatives to parents (for instance: community centres, day camps, groups on duty, etc.).”

The Education Ministry stressed that, under the same order, the provisions which stipulated the vacation of 42 calendar days on the summer period had been removed.

The Education, Culture and Research Ministry warns the local public administrations and managers of kindergartens about the compulsoriness of ensuring a qualitative management of the early education institutions and about the need of an efficient communication with the parents, especially with the employed ones. Also, the ministry recommends that the local public authorities identify the best solutions to maintain a regime of continuous work, of preserving a flexible schedule or consecutive cessation of kindergartens’ work during summer.
