Festivity dedicated to Day of Moldova's Academy of Sciences held in Chisinau

Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ - A festivity dedicated to the Day of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM) took place at ASM today.  

Contacted by MOLDPRES, ASM president, academician Ion Tighineanu said that the institution he leads had had flourishing periods, as well as more difficult ones. Tighineanu stressed that the Academy had brought a quite sustainable contribution to the science from Moldova: new scientific schools were set up, new departments in the scientific research were opened, highly qualified staff was trained and famous personalities all over the world appeared through these scientific schools.     

”At present too, Moldova is known on all continents including through scientific researchers, who are invited to diverse international forums, scientific researchers who publish prestigious articles in the world. Although we are a small community, we are visible on the European and international stage. Therefore, Moldova has become the first country of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and from the Eastern Partnership to manage to associate with European programmes. In fact, we proved the excellence of the scientific research in Moldova,” Ion Tighineanu noted.  

In continuation, the ASM president handed the institution’s distinctions to scientists who got outstanding scientific results. Among them, there was the scientific secretary of the ASM History Institute, Silvia Corlateanu-Granaci, who was awarded the medal Nicolae Milescu Spataru. He said that this distinction honoured and encouraged her to further reveal the scientific and historical truth.    

An exhibition by fine artists Emil Childescu and Tudor Zbarnea, who are members of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, was inaugurated at the event. At the same time, Tudor Zbarnea held a public lecture titled, National Art Museum of Moldova – challenges and prospects for promotion of national artistic values. The festivity ended with a musical recital presented by a light music singer, Vitalie Dani.  

The creation of the academic sector of Moldova’s science was initiated immediately after the World War II. Under the decision from 11 March 1946 by the government of the USSR to organize a base of scientific research of the Academy of Sciences from the USSR, on 12 June 1946, the Council of Ministers of the Moldovan Soviet Republic and the Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (of Bolsheviks) from Moldova adopted the decision On the creation of the Moldovan Base of scientific researches of the Academy of Sciences from the USSR in the Chisinau city. The act of foundation and opening of the Academy of Sciences of the Moldovan Soviet Republic took place on 2 August 1961.       

Presently, Moldova’s Academy of Sciences has 78 members, of who 49 titular ones and 29 corresponding members, as well as 54 honorary members. At the same time, 23 personalities got the title Doctor Honoris Causa of ASM.
