Folk craftsmen from across Moldova gather at national day of folk garment

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ – The folk craftsmen, professional and amateur artists from across Moldova have gathered on Sunday, 30 June, at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History (MNEIN), to mark IVth issue of the National Day of Folk Garment (ZNPP).

At the event start, the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Liliana Nicolaescu – Onofrei, has mentioned that it is vital to have such celebrations. "I hope a lot that these ones will become true tradition, not merely by means of exhibitions and costumes, but also to have an educational element so as our young people to learn more about what the folk garment is, what is its historical, cultural meaning and social issues. That is, to ensure that these values ​​are transmitted. It is significant that all educated people, all those responsible for this field, feel supported by appropriate programmes that we, as representatives of public authorities (AP), can support but which we can build together, so that everyone can understand what folk garment means and what its value represents," said Liliana Nicolaescu – Onofrei.

At his turn, head of MNEIN, Petru Vicol, has said he is glad that this event has been taking place in his institution. "We have a museum with beautiful traditions, of the period of 130 years of age, with a tremendously valuable heritage, especially within folk garment. We have thousands and thousands of elements of folk garment, and today some of them have been exhibited. I hope people will get to know our traditional costume, and symbols that are embedded in these pieces," specified Petru Vicol.

Present at the event, the deputy SP of Moldovan Parliament, Monica Babuc, has congratulated the audience. "We have returned to ourselves the folk garment. Long live the folk garment and let it take us all to the times of its charm,"  said Monica Babuc.

There were presented to audience the costumes of MNEIN, Cristea House (CC), Rustic Art Craft Complex (CMAR), as well as those of folk ensemble Joc etc.

The ZNPP was established by a Parliamentary decision in November 2015. The Ist issue of celebration took place in 2016.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) and MNEIN, aiming at valorisation of authentic Romanian folk costumes and ethnic cohabiting ethnic groups in Moldova, knowledge of costume components, its symbols and promotion of techniques making folk costume at national and international levels.
