Five districts to benefit from grants for creation of rainwater basins in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 August /MOLDPRES/ – The rural localities from districts Cantemir, Criuleni, Hancesti, Leova and Ungheni will benefit from non – reimbursable financial support and technical assistance for the creation of rainwater accumulation basins, provided by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Austrian Development Agency (ADA).

They are invited to submit the files for financing, worth up to $30,000, legally registered agricultural producers, associations of farmers or representatives of business environment from aforementioned districts.

“The applicants must exploit agricultural land located in places that offer the best conditions for capturing water from rainfalls and ensure a cofinancing of 20 per cent of the offered investment. The land proposed to be irrigated from water storage basins must have a quality rating of over 50 points”, indicate sources of UNDP.

Starting this week, the project team will organise info sessions in all districts of intervention of the project as to inform the potential beneficiaries on programme objectives and financing conditions. The schedule of info sessions will be communicated on the Facebook page of UNDP Moldova.

The competition is organised within project: The reducing of climate risks and disasters, funded by ADA and implemented by UNDP. The project aims to increase the resilience and capacity of rural communities to adapt to climate change and disasters by improving the water storage infrastructure and rehabilitating local fire stations.

Thus, in 2019 – 2022, it will be created 15 basins in 05 mentioned districts for capturing and storing water from rainfalls. Five local fire stations in the preselected localities will be rehabilitated and equipped with the necessary technique. The priorities of adaptation to climate change and disaster risk management will be integrated into the local development plans of 05 communities, in a participatory and gender sensitive manner. The capacities of decision – makers and local population in 05 districts will be strengthened regarding measures to reduce, prevent and respond to climate change and disaster risk.
