Moldova's western district hosts workshop for strawberry farmers

Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ – Over 50 apple growers and representatives of associations have met this week at a workshop entitled: Modern technologies for fruit production and propagation of planting material in strawberry crop. The event was organised in the context of the Field Day, in locality Hristoforovca​, Ungheni district.

During the workshop, local and international experts presented theoretical info and made practical demonstrations in the fields of strawberry planting material. The specialists referred to strawberry stonifers, constructive elements, costs, investments and practical manipulations when producing strawberry stolons. There was also a discussion about setting up and maintaining plantations on strawberry fruit in open field and temporary protected land (tunnels with arches or covered with non – woven materials).

The participants were presented with technological works and maintenance of phytosanitary status of plants in commercial strawberry plantations, irrigation application and fertilisation on the basis of plant – soil diagnosis.

In similar context, there were made phenological observations and appreciation of phytosanitary status of strawberry plantation, as well as prophylactic actions and practical demonstrations of integrated plant protection management and identification of macro and microelement deficiencies.

The event in Ungheni district is part of the activities carried out within project: Strengthening the capacity of small apple growers, funded by the United Nations Agriculture and Food Organisation (UNAFO), gathering members of Associations Bacifera and Pomusoarele Moldovei.
