Fragments of sculptures installed in locality of central Moldova

Chisinau, 02 September /MOLDPRES/ – Several stone sculptures were installed in Calarasi city, at the end of August. These are inspired by the works of the sculptor – monumentalist Dumitru Scvortov – Russu, native of locality.

The idea of ​​implementing this project belongs to the head of Calarasi district, Sergiu Artene, who took several measures to make "the current year – the year of consolidating the aesthetic visualisation of urban space". The last action in this context was the installation of sculptures, after Dumitru Scvortov – Russu.

In 2018, the head of Calarasi district visited a painting exhibition dedicated to the works of famous sculptor and decided to contribute to promotion of these creations by installing fragments in his native city. This is how project: Camp of Sculpture came about and, as a result, at the end of this summer, the district centre was filled with sculptures that enriched the landscape its centre.

According to the Calarasi district council, "the logic of the placement of sculptures is not accidental, this being concentrated on preserving the initial symbolism of each sculpture. Thus, sculpture Cititoarea adorns the entrance of the district Public Library, sculpture Logodna is located in the square of the district Council, the favourite place for photo sessions of married young people, and sculpture of the mother with the baby in her arms is installed in the maternity ward of the district hospital".

The project was funded by the Calarasi district council.

Dumitru Scvortov – Russu was born in Calarasi on 26 October 1926, and died on 14 June 1991. He studied at the School of Fine Arts I. Repin in Chisinau and at the Academy of Arts in Leningrad (today St. Petersburg). Over the years, he made numerous sculptures, bas – reliefs and busts for various localities, several cycles of sculptures: Maternitate, Poama, Moldova, Coloane, etc. In parallel with his creative work, he worked for many years as a sculpture teacher at the Republican School of Fine Arts in Chisinau. Among his works of monumental art there can be mentioned such as: Bust of Alexie Mateevici (Classical Alley, Chisinau), Monumental composition Geometric shapes (School of Opera and Ballet Theatre, Chisinau), Monument of Mihai Eminescu (Anenii Noi). He also made the funeral bust of writer Liviu Damian, as well as many other sculptures, both post and monumental – decorative ones, appreciated by art lovers.
