National Food Day would be celebrated in the Republic of Moldova annually, on 16 October.

The authors of the legislative initiative are members of the Committee on Agriculture and Food Industry. According to them, the establishment of this holiday will contribute to raising public awareness of the need for investments in agriculture, promoting the principles of healthy agriculture, which lead to healthy eating.

"Every year, around 88 million tons of food is dumped worldwide. World Food Day is celebrated around the world since 1981. Today, over 150 countries mark the holiday. The UN General Assembly called on governments and international organizations to mark this holiday in order to raise public awareness of global food issues and strengthen solidarity in the fight against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.
