Moldovan foreign ministry condemns strongly provocative demarches evoked at UN tribune

Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/ – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) has taken note with dismay and indignation at the speech of Leonid Manakov, speaking at the plenary session of 23 September of the 42nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, whereby, "on behalf of the Transnistrian people and on indication of the leadership of Transnistria”, directly calls the international community to recognise the independence of the Transnistrian region as a subject of international law, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

The outrage of MAEIE is even bigger, given that similar speeches, meant to manipulate and mislead international public opinion, L. Manakov also spoke at the previous meetings of this prestigious international forum, specialised in the field of human rights protection.

The Moldovan foreign office considers that such speeches, delivered from the stand of the UN institutions, are provocative and counterproductive, being able to undermine the negotiation process in format 5+2 regarding the identification of a global, peaceful and sustainable solution for the Transnistrian conflict, based on sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova within its internationally recognised borders, with a special status for the Transnistrian region, as stipulated in the relevant OSCE documents.

In this context, MAEIE reiterates the approach of the Moldovan authorities to the leadership of Russia upon cessation of controversial activity of Foundation of development of social and cultural relations Transnistria, opened in Moscow in early 2019, whose leader is L. Manakov, considering that in fact, it functions as an "Official representation of Transnistria" in Russia.
