Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/- During the working visit to Ashabad, President Igor Dodon met with Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, the presidential press service has reported.

The officials reiterated their interest in further promoting bilateral political dialogue at different levels and in all areas for the benefit of our people.

The Moldovan president praised the organization of international forum in Baku, which he had the honor to attend last year and this year as well. "Such events provide the international community with a real platform to discuss the state of affairs and ways of solving existing problems more constructively. I am considering the possibility of participating in the eighth Forum, due in Baku on 12-14 March next year,” Dodon said.

Referring to the economic cooperation, the president said that, despite a positive trend that has been registered lately in bilateral trade, it was found that this volume does not fully reflect the cooperation possibilities that our states have in this area, causing the need to develop concrete steps for developing bilateral economic relations.

In particular, Igor Dodon emphasized our country’s interest in joint investment projects, creating joint ventures, participation of Azerbaijani partners in the activity of Free Economic Zones, industrial parks, specialized exhibitions in Moldova, cooperation in transport, energy, etc.

Given that the last meeting of the Moldovan-Azeri intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation was held in Chisinau in 2012, the Moldovan president expressed his willingness to organize the fourth meeting in the near future.

Igor Dodon thanked Ilham Aliyev for the support in the projects in culture and education, which were carried out in Gagauzia through the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Thus, due to the understandings that the president of Moldova had in 2017 with Ilham Aliyev, at present, the works of construction of a cultural-educational Center are completed in Ceadâr-Lunga, where about 700 children from this region will study music and other genres of art.

Concluding the discussion, Dodon invited the president of Azerbaijan to pay an official visit to Moldova, which provides a good opportunity to discuss in detail issues on the Moldovan-Azeri relations.
