Almost 600,000 citizens vote in Moldova till 18:00

Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ - More than 36 per cent of the citizens expected to come to the polls exercised their right to vote till 18:00. The voter turnout is the same as in the first round of the local elections; the voting process takes place according to the procedures established, without significant incidents. The head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Dorin Cimil, has unveiled information to this effect.   

According to Cimil, the settlement with the highest voter turnout is the Mihailesti village, northern Ocnita district, where almost 70 per cent of the electors registered in the lists voted till this time. The lowest voter turnout was recorded in Calarasi and Floresti, where only 24 per cent of the electors voted.

In Chisinau, where two candidates run for the office of general mayor, Andrei Nastase, put up by the ACUM bloc, and Ion Ceban, the candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), over 33 per cent of the electors recorded in the lists voted till 18:00, by 3 per cent more than at the ballot from 20 October. The most active voters from the capital remain those from the Rascani district and the less active are the ones from the Ciocana district. A voter turnout of about 33 per cent was registered in the suburbs, with the residents of Condrita being the most active voters.  

The CEC head noted that 52 infringements of the legislation had been recorded till 18:00, of which 14 cases of electoral agitation and six cases of corrupting voters. All incidents are investigated by the police.

Also, the CEC members today registered four notifications, of which three ones came from electoral contenders.

Those 1,052 polling stations opened at 7:00. The electors will be able to vote till 21:00 and if needed, the term of voting will be extended by two hours, the CEC leadership informed.

The CEC head also said that the first preliminary data on the results of the voting would be presented at a news briefing due at 22:00.

As many as 384 mayors are to be elected at the runoff of the general local polls. The last general local elections took place on 14 June 2015.
