Moldova interested in attracting investors from Azerbajan to carry out infrastructure projects

Chisinau, 2 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a working meeting with Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Moldova Gudsi Osmanov.  

According to the presidential press service, the officials discussed diverse issues on the bilateral relations in the commercial and economic, energy and humanitarian   sectors. The sides found out a huge potential of the two countries, which has not been fully turned to account, and spoke out for boosting the relations in all fields of common interest.

In the context, the interlocutors stressed the importance of organizing the fourth meeting of the inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation, which has not convened ever since 2012. At the same time, the head of state noted that a business forum was scheduled to be held within this commission and Azeri companies were planned to be attracted to participate in topic-related exhibitions in Moldova.    

At the meeting, the Moldovan president reiterated Moldova’s interest in the attraction of investors from Azerbaijan in the carrying out of infrastructure projects. In particular, Igor Dodon emphasized that the experience of Azeri companies in the roads’ construction was of great interest for Moldova.  

At the same time, the head of state thanked the leadership of Azerbaijan for the significant support provided to Moldova to carry out social projects, especially in the Gagauz Autonomy. Thus, the president highlighted that the construction of a cultural and education centre was finishing in the Ceadar-Lunga town, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. It is worth mentioning that this was possible due to an agreement reached between President Igor Dodon and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, during at official visit to Baku, in June 2017.   

Also, the head of state thanked the Azeri side for the invitation to the Global Forum in Baku, in which he had the honour to take part in 2018 and 2019. Igor Dodon said that he was considering possibility to participate in the next forum, scheduled for 12-14 March 2020.    

In the end of the meeting, the Moldovan president reiterated the invitation to Ilham Aliyev to pay an official visit to Moldova next year.
